Sports Podiatry
What is Sports Podiatry?
Sports Podiatry is the term used to describe the analysis and treatment of the function of the foot, ankle and lower limb. We examine foot function by conducting a biomechanical assessment, analysing gait and testing muscle strength and function.
Sports Podiatry can be both a preventative measure and a means of treatment. A podiatrist will treat your existing injuries, as well as recommending ways to ensure the risk of injury is reduced in the future.
Treatment may include muscle stretching or strengthening programs, specific exercises, massage, taping, dry needling and the fabrication of orthotics to improve your functional alignment.
Sports and Overuse Injuries
Overuse injuries occur when a muscle or tendon is placed under stress over and over again. This can occur with repetitive actions during sport, for example how your foot strikes when you run, or can occur if your body has an underlying imbalance that you may not be aware of. Sports Podiatrists are able to diagnose the source of these imbalances and treat appropriately.
Footwear will also play a role in sports and overuse injuries and podiatrists are experts in assessing your foot type and advising you on the best shoes for your feet, and your activity.
To treat you as comprehensively as possible, we will often work closely with other health professionals such as sports doctors, orthopaedic surgeons, physiotherapists, chiropractors and exercise physiologists to provide you with the best outcomes.
Podiatrists are the experts in the assessment and treatment of sports and overuse injuries of the foot and lower limb. You can be assured that you will receive the best evidence based and up to date treatment for your foot, ankle and lower limb injuries at Foot Right Podiatry.
